"As a reaction to this strong improvement, the tobacco business is pushing back with recent nicotine products, forcefully targeting adolescents. Authorities must take action more rapidly and more vigorously in enacting tested tobacco-control regulations," the representative added.

The e-cigarette figures are a projection since numerous countries - 109 in total, and several in African and Asian regions - lack data.

According to the study, as of this past February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette consumers were mature individuals, primarily in wealthy countries.

And at least 15 million youth aged 13 and 15 currently use e-cigarettes, according to surveys from 123 states.

Although many states have tried to implement e-cigarette policies to combat child vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 states yet had no policy in operation, and 74 countries had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be purchased, says the health authority.

At the same time, tobacco use has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Frequency of tobacco use among females decreased the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

Among males, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But one in five of adults globally even now consumes tobacco.

Experts say vaping is far less damaging than traditional cigarettes, and can aid you cease smoking. It is advised against for those who don't smoke.
