Miami Heat earned a crushing 146-114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in their first NBA game after player Terry Rozier was detained over alleged unlawful sports betting.

Addressing the detentions for the first time, league head Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the game," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

The commissioner also mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. Naturally, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"Moreover 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
