Jude Bellingham Has to Eliminate the Immature behavior to Reclaim a Central Place Under Manager Thomas Tuchel.

If Jude Bellingham wants to earn his place back into the English top starting eleven, the smart move to eliminate the unnecessary reactions. His response when he saw that he was about to come up following a night of inconsistency in the match against Albania was not good enough.

"I prefer not to make more out of it but I hold to my words 'attitude matters' and respect for the players who come in," Tuchel said. "Decisions are made and you have to accept it when you're on the field."

Bellingham has to learn. There was no call for a tantrum. The captain had recently scored to make England two goals ahead in a dead rubber match, there were six minutes left and the player, who had not played particularly well, was just shown a yellow for fouling Armando Broja. This could scarcely be called a debatable decision. Actually it would have been foolish for Tuchel to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a chance the midfielder would rule himself out of the initial fixture of the World Cup by receiving a second caution.

Shifting Focus Upon Himself

However, the player made himself the center of attention. No one could overlook the player's annoyance when he clocked that he was going to make way for another player. He threw his arms up and while he accepted the coach's hand after making his way to the sideline it was obvious that Tuchel was displeased.

This represents the hurdle that Bellingham must overcome. He praised Marcus Rashford for delivering the cross for the captain to score the team's second, but the rest was self-defeating. It's not like complaining was going to alter the decision. The German has talked so much about following squad protocols and the importance of showing proper conduct.

Under Scrutiny

He, left out of the previous squad, is being watched carefully since coming back to the team in the current camp. Practically his place has been in question and he hasn't helped his case through his behavior to his substitution as the side rounded off a ideal group stage by overcoming a feisty challenge from their opponents.

The System and the Setup

This implies it's unclear on if the team operate most effectively when Bellingham plays. The evidence here was inconclusive. Some new ideas were tested from Tuchel in the beginning. He has provided the team structure and clarity over the past few matches, using a holding player, a No 8, a No 10 and out-and-out wingers, but there was a different feel in this match. The young defender was handed his international debut, Adam Wharton made his first start internationally and the use of Stones as a part-time midfielder meant there was passing resemblance to Manchester City’s historic treble-winning side.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham had ups and downs. He made a chance for his teammate in the latter period but at times seemed too desperate to impress. He made many rushed, misplaced passes. An unnecessary confrontation against an opponent early on. The team looked disjointed for much of the second half. One Albania chance resulted from he lost the ball cheaply. His caution occurred when an opponent took the ball by Broja and committed a foul on the attacker.

Substitutes Decide

Ultimately England’s depth proved crucial. The coach brought on Foden, who looked more comfortable to the spot that Bellingham had played earlier in the match, and the Arsenal winger. Later Saka delivered a corner kick for the captain to open the scoring. This served as a reminder that corners and free-kicks are going to be vital at the World Cup.

Connection Remains

However, all talk was about Bellingham. The quality of Rashford's cross for the second goal was partly forgotten amid the drama of the Rogers substitution. After the final whistle, all eyes were on Bellingham. The coach approached from behind and guided Bellingham to acknowledge the away supporters. Their connection is not damaged. Tuchel is not willing to abandon Bellingham yet. But if Tuchel is inclined to grant him centre stage is not guaranteed.
