Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
